Boyne Adventure Race to take place on 27th August 2022

Trim Tourism Network’s annual Boyne Adventure Race is now confirmed to take place on Saturday August 27th 2022.

Final Information for participants
This information relates to both the 35k Warrior and 50k Battle race.
We hope you are set for this year’s event.   The weather is looking good this year and we’re set to bring you an enhanced Boyne Adventure Race this Saturday August 27th after our two year absence due to you know what ! 
 
This is all important stuff read carefully!
Thank you for becoming part of the fourth annual Trim Tourism Network Boyne Adventure Race on Saturday, August 27th, there is a tremendous buzz around Trim in anticipation for our 2022 event.
The race route and sequence has been enhanced to try to improve the experience of all involved.
Competition is fierce with a field containing really strong racers from adventure racing, running, cycling, triathlon, kayaking and fitness groups. A fast and close race is expected, and spectators will be treated to a great spectacle. 
While it is a race for most, the only person you are competing against is yourself.  Be careful out there along the route and remember this is an adventure race so you are meant to have fun!
Making sure everyone enjoys the race safely is our top priority. We have rules in place to ensure the race is safe for racers, the public and other road users.
Car Parking
Car parking on Saturday is available in the car parks in Trim and street parking.  Car parks close to the start line include ;
Emmet Street Car Park – opposite C15HC96
Castle Car Park – Opposite C15XH29
Haggard Street Car Park – Opposite C15PX80
James Griffin Pub High Street – beside C15CA29
Jonathan Swift Street  – behind Aldi C15NCP8   ( not the Aldi Carpark )
Patrick Street Car park – opposite C15NC59
Kells Road Car park – opposite C15TY88
Parking also available in street spaces though the town.
Please note that all car parking is paid parking in Trim on Saturday.   Payment can be made at the machines at the car parks or alternatively you can pay for your parking on the Apcoa App.  Paid car parking comes into place at 9am so make sure you put a €2 & a €1 coin into the machine to cover your parking while you are out racing.
 
 
 
Registration Times and Race Packs
All competitors must register and collect their race packs from our Braveheart 25 pop up store located at C15XH29
Thursday 25th August from 3pm to 9pm
Friday 26th  from 1pm to 9pm
Saturday the 27th (Race Day) at 6.30am at Trim Castle ( start line of the race ) , look out for a big white Van!.
Please register in advance of race-day if at all possible, to avoid delays on the morning of the race.  Please have your race ticket ready to scan when you are registering.   This has already been emailed to you when you completed the online registration.
Your race pack includes your BAR technical t shirt, your race number, timing chip, bike sticker and helmet sticker. Bike stickers must be placed on your bike & helmet before dropping it to the transition area.
Race numbers must be worn to the front and be visible throughout the race.
Start and Finish
 
The 50k Battle race will start at 7.45am.  There will be two waves for this race.  Please note your wave time at registration.  Wave 1 will go at 7.45am and Wave 2 will go shortly afterwards, approximately 5 minutes after. This is to avoid a bottleneck at the top of the road after you start the race. ( due to the demolition of the Millennium Bridge entry into the Porchfields for the run has changed ) . Both waves are competition level.     All 50k entrants must arrive to the starting area at 6.45am.  
Please make sure you check your wave at registration.     
The 35k Warrior race will start at 9.15am.  This will be in one wave only.  You must arrive to the starting area before 7.45am
There will be a dib in point at the start and at points during the race.  You need to make sure you do this so we can calculate all your timings, failure to do this will result in disqualification from competition. 
Each wave begins with a shotgun start. The start line is opposite Trim Garda Station beside Trim Castle.
Please make sure you are at the platform area at least 30 minutes before the designated time for the mandatory safety briefing and warm ups.  You will then make your way to the start line just beside the platform area.
Prizes will be presented to the first three male and first three female competitors from each level past the finish line.
In the case of any dispute the race director’s decision will be final regarding the outcome.
Presentations will be made at the platform area once we have calculated the results of those who are first home.
Food will be available for all participants at the finish line.
Toilets are available at the start area and at the entry into the quarry at the bike rack.
Water filling area available at Start and quarry transition, please bring your own bottle.
We will have complimentary tea or coffee before the race only.  To avail of this please arrive early.
 
Bike drop
 
You must register before you drop your bike. You can register on Thursday, Friday or Early Saturday ( 6.15 am ) per the above information.
Bike drop is only possible on Saturday morning from 6.30am. Make sure you place your race number sticker on your bike & helmet before you drop it off. You should attach your helmet, cycle shoes (if used), drinks, food or any other equipment needed, to your bike. Do not leave anything at the bike transition once you collect your bike after the race.
The bike drop is located at the bus stop beside the donkey’s field. ( opposite Trim Garda Station )
All bikes must be dropped at the transition zone before 7am for all 50k participants and before 8am for all 35k participants. 
The bike drop is located close to the start. 
Race rules
Arrive early at the start line with your race number attached to the front.
Mandatory Kit must be worn or carried as appropriate and as specified
There are no road closures for the cycling routes competitors must follow the road traffic laws.
Access to and from Tobertynan quarry is via a narrow lane. You must keep left as there are competitors going in both directions.
All competitors must follow the prescribed route. There will be static and mobile checks as well as drone monitoring.
All dib points must be visited in the correct order. You must make sure you dib correctly. Any missed dibs will result in time penalties or disqualification. Make sure you dib at the finish and give your dibber back.
Road bikes are best, tt bikes or aero bars are not permitted. Helmets are compulsory. Drafting is allowed.
Obey the environmental policy. Any competitor found littering by race marshals or fellow competitors can be reported and disqualified.  We follow a strict  ‘Leave No Trace’ policy.
The Race Director’s decision is final
Assist any persons who are in difficulty and report it to closest race marshals
You are entering the event entirely at your own risk and you must ensure that you are physically capable of completing the event
In the unlikely event of congestion at the kayak start there will be a time out operated. You will be informed of this at the time, otherwise just continue your race. The time out will be taken from your overall race time. Time out will not be available to any prize winners i.e. you must race straight through to be in contention.
In the event of inclement weather, the organisers have the right to alter the route on the day of the event
 
Mandatory Kit List
o    Buoyancy aid (provided) for the kayak
o    Hat, gloves and waterproof jacket. (Weather dependant, you will be advised at registration if required)
o    Suitable footwear. Trail runners are recommended for the run sections.
o    Appropriate food and drink. Bring enough to do you for the entire race. There will be limited water re-filling points on the course. There will be water at the quarry run to refill your bottles. Disposable cups or bottles are not being used.
o    Cycle helmet, bike repair kit, spare tube, and pump. (can be left on bike during run section)
o    Backpack or bum bag. (optional)
o  Use of headphones is not allowed.
All kit will be checked on the morning of the race.
If you do not have mandatory kit you will not be allowed race.
Failure to wear cycle helmet or buoyancy aid during relevant sections is an automatic disqualification.
 
Optional Kit
o Cycling shoes with cleats can be used but you will have to carry your runners on the bike. The choice is yours. Remember there are three run sections.
o Shorts or leggings? Go with what you are most comfortable with. Keep an eye on the weather forecast and the fact that you will get your feet wet and muddy. There are also areas where you will scramble over gravel, briars, and gorse… you have been warned!
 
Safety
All competitors take part in the race at their own risk.
All roads are open and all rules of the road must be followed.
All cyclists must come to a complete stop at stop signs and/or if directed by marshals to do so.  Marshals are not there to stop traffic.  Rules of the road applies throughout the race.
Follow the directions of race marshals and the Gardai.
The race route will be marked and clearly visible at all decision points. Keep your eyes open and follow the markings / signs.
 
Spectators
The best vantage points to view the race are at the start area in the castle grounds and in the Porchefields.
All support is welcome but please give all participants space to perform.
We request that you do not drive or follow the race by car.
There will be no access for spectators or any cars at the quarry run. Spectators must not attempt to go there as they will block the race route. Competitors will rack their bikes at the designated racking area in the quarry while they run the course.
 
Shower area
If you wish to freshen up after the race , Trim GAA Clubhouse  have made available the use of their showers and this will be available for showers after the race until 1pm.  Trim GAA

We’re back and getting ready for our event taking place on Saturday August 27th 2022. We will be emailing all participants with details of the 2022 race soon. Registrations will also open shortly.

June 2021 update.
Hi there, We hope you are keeping well and fit during these turbulent times.   
Following a lot of consideration and consultation with stakeholders and the community we are disappointed to bring you some bad news about our 2021 race which was to take place on August 21st.   

The 2021 Boyne Adventure Race has now been postponed until August 2022.   

The decision to postpone our race once more was a decision that was not made easily and involved consultations with our stakeholders, our sponsors and the community around us and was made for the best interest of all involved in line with public health guidelines.  While we were confident that we could run a safe race we unfortunately could not proceed with planning an event with uncertainty that the event may not be able to proceed due to public health guidelines around large crowds at the time of the event.   

What happens next  
Your entry will automatically be entered for our 2022 event ( date to be confirmed, most likely to take place Saturday August 27th 2022)
You will receive a follow up call over the next couple of weeks from our office to confirm that the details we have on our system are up to date.   

You do not need to contact our office as we will be in contact with you directly over the next few weeks.
